Coping With Cancer Hypnosis is a powerful tool for creating effective coping mechanisms to manage the symptoms of cancer, and the side the effects of its treatment. By maintaining an enhanced sense of control and also reducing the stress and anxiety of associated with cancer, individuals can create powerful thoughts and images of hopeful wellbeing. A study published in Oncology in 2000 followed 16 adult cancer patients suffering from nausea and vomiting, just before their next chemotherapy doses. After hypnosis, the nausea and vomiting disappeared.
A Stanford University study published in 1983, involved 54 women with metastatic breast cancer. They were followed for one year. Some were offered group therapy each week, and a portion of this group was also trained in self-hypnosis, directed at reducing cancer pain. The hypnosis group had lower pain ratings. Paul Gustafson’s six session Coping With Cancer program helps individuals to feel comfortable, relaxed, and more in control. Each session guides the client on an inner journey of peaceful empowerment. They learn self-hypnosis and receive a cd recording or each session for home reinforcement.
